The Smart Energy Council congratulates Tony Chappel on his appointment as Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) and welcomes the Australian Government’s decision to appoint an experienced regulatory leader to one of the country’s most important energy institutions.
Mr Chappel brings extensive experience across the energy, climate and environmental sectors, having most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of the NSW Environment Protection Authority. His previous leadership role at the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) also provides valuable insight into Australia’s evolving energy system and the regulatory frameworks that support it.
Smart Energy Council acting CEO, Nigel Morris said Mr Chappel’s breadth of experience across environmental regulation and energy markets makes him well placed to lead the Clean Energy Regulator.
“On behalf of the Smart Energy Council and our members, I congratulate Tony Chappel on his appointment as Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Clean Energy Regulator, and I commend the Australian Government on this appointment.
“Tony’s experience across the NSW Environment Protection Authority and the Australian Energy Market Operator gives him a deep understanding of the regulatory, environmental and market settings that underpin Australia’s renewable energy future.
“We have worked constructively with the Clean Energy Regulator for many years and value the important role it plays in providing confidence, integrity and transparency across Australia’s energy market.
The Smart Energy Council looks forward to continuing to work closely with Mr. Chappel and the Clean Energy Regulator on behalf of its members, supporting a regulatory framework that encourages investment, enables innovation and helps Australia’s renewable energy economy continue to grow and deliver for households, businesses and communities.”
