Pacific Mentors

Australia-Pacific Solar Mentoring Program

This program will match Australian mentors with Pacific rooftop solar PV and battery installers to facilitate knowledge exchange and industry development as part of the Pacific’s goal to achieve 100% renewable energy.  The program will be managed by the Smart Energy Council which will select relevant members to support their Pacific brothers and sisters and the Sustainable Energy Industry Association for Pacific Islands (SEIAPI) which will seek expressions of interest from its members for mentoring.

Mentors will primarily be available for online support, training and assistance in problem solving. Where possible and subject to financing, mentors will also visit the region annually to participate in installations, inspect recent installations, and conduct practical training workshops subject to the availability of local training facilities or an appropriate site. More broadly, it is envisaged that the program will contribute to the professionalisation of the industry in the Pacific and support the adoption of appropriate standards for training and systems. While the focus will be on grid-connected solar PV and battery systems, mentors may also be able to provide advice about plug-in solar PV and off-grid systems. We will also be looking to support women in trades more generally.  Canberra Institute of Technology will help devise a training checklist and participation certificate.
