Historic renewable energy partnership signed with India

The  Smart Energy Council is honoured to announce its signing of a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Hinduja Group Limited – a transformative agreement that puts skills, sustainability, and clean energy leadership at the heart of Australia-India cooperation.

Smart Energy Council Chief Executive John Grimes says the MoU is a turning point for bilateral progress on renewable energy between Australia and India.

This MoU lays the foundation for:

  • Establishing a renewable energy skills centre in Uttar Pradesh
  • Accelerating the commercialisation of clean technologies
  • Building a two-way investment pipeline to unlock giga-scale ventures in both nations

“Uttar Pradesh represents one of the world’s most important frontiers for equitable energy transition,” Mr Grimes said.

“We’re proud to be playing a central role, as lead partner in delivering programs that will upskill local youth, empower communities, and enable long-term, low-carbon prosperity.”

“This milestone follows our recent trade delegation to the region, supported by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.”

“This collaboration isn’t just about exporting solar panels or storage solutions, it’s about building circular systems of knowledge, innovation, and opportunity – systems that deliver climate impact and social good.”

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to our members helping build these Australia-India partnerships, including King & Wood Mallesons, Selectronic, Gelion, 5B, Sunrise CSP, Catch Power, Deakin University, Canberra Institute of Technology and Electrifying Australia who help bring this vision to life.”

“Together, we’re helping power the world, sustainably and equitably.”
