The Smart Energy Council welcomes further advancements on the development of Australia’s Offshore wind industry, this time off Victoria’s South West coast.
“Offshore wind in Victoria represents enormous opportunities for the state’s clean energy future,” Smart Energy Council acting CEO Wayne Smith said.
“We applaud the state and federal government’s for leading the country in development of the Offshore wind sector.”
“This is an excellent alternative to Victoria’s long reliance on brown coal as an energy source, one of the dirtiest and most expensive forms of power generation in the country.”
“The Southern Offshore Wind Farm presents another example of a Future Made in Australia, given the area’s proximity to local wind industry manufacturers like Keppel Prince in Portland.”
“This is what a smart energy future looks like, one that’s powered naturally by wind and solar, and local jobs and industry.”
The Smart Energy Council supports the establishment of the Southern Ocean Wind Industry Committee, and its emphasis on uniting the licence holder, state and local governments, along with First Nations groups, local industry and workers’ representatives, as well local communities.
“Renewable energy from sources like offshore wind must be the primary goal of energy generation in the Otway Basin, not more fossil fuel projects,” Mr Smith said.
“Projects like this demonstrate how we can meet our climate targets, and develop a future made in Australia.”
