Power System Security and Reliability Standards Review
Date: 29th September 2026
Submitted to: Energy Markets, Department of Energy and Economic Diversification
Short Description
The Smart Energy Council provided a submission to Western Australia’s Power System Security and Reliability Standards Review, supporting measures to maintain system strength as renewable generation and battery storage increase.
We emphasise that new technical requirements should be transparent, proportionate and designed to support, rather than unnecessarily constrain, the deployment of clean energy technologies.
Our recommendations include clearer identification of system strength needs, streamlined grid-forming requirements, proportionate obligations for smaller projects, and appropriate recognition of the system services that batteries and other inverter-based technologies can provide.
