Andrew Dickson Joins Smart Energy Council as Senior Advisor – South Australia

The Smart Energy Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Dickson as Senior Advisor – South Australia, further strengthening our commitment to the energy transition in South Australia and to the possible hosting of COP31 in Adelaide in November 2026.

Andrew has also been a valued Smart Energy Council Board member since February 2022.

A Career in Renewable Energy Leadership

Andrew began his renewable energy career in South Australia in 2004, developing the Snowtown Wind Farm north of Adelaide. Over the past two decades, his work has spanned:

  • Solar thermal projects in South Australia and Queensland, including the Solar Dawn consortium in the Commonwealth’s Solar Flagships program
  • Wave energy developments
  • Export-oriented hydrogen megaprojects in Western Australia
  • Implementing Australia’s first public community investment scheme into a utility-scale renewable energy project, for the Sapphire Wind Farm in NSW

Government and International Experience

Andrew also served 3½ years in the South Australian Government in economic development and investment attraction. For the past decade, he has engaged with governments and potential hydrogen customers in Singapore, Japan, Korea and Germany, deepening his global expertise.

Driving Innovation in Smart Transport and Maritime Decarbonisation

A passionate advocate for smart transport and electric vehicles with bidirectional charging, Andrew recently completed a Churchill Fellowship into maritime decarbonisation. His research on wind-assisted ship propulsion took him across Singapore, the UK, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and the Marshall Islands.

Academic Excellence

Andrew holds a Master of Science and Technology Commercialisation from the University of Adelaide and a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering from UNSW (ADFA College).

The Smart Energy Council warmly welcomes Andrew Dickson to this new role, where his depth of experience and vision will play a critical role in accelerating South Australia’s renewable energy transition.
