The Smart Energy Council today welcomes the intention for Research and Development licences in the offshore wind zones around the country.
Chief Executive John Grimes says he strongly supports the development of Australian manufacturing and innovation in the offshore renewable energy generation sector.
“This will allow for universities, researchers, start-ups and commercial development projects to be undertaken to test and prove Australian innovation.”
“While there is the withdrawal of one proponent from the Hunter offshore wind zone, the industry has a strong future in Australia, providing the ability to produce large amounts of power at a consistent basis.”
“One player does not constitute the market, and there are well-progressed proponents in the other locations that continue to develop projects that will provide boosts to local economies and green manufacturing hubs.”
