Smart Energy Council welcomes $2 billion investment into the Clean Energy Finance Corporation

The Smart Energy Council applauds the Albanese Government’s commitment to a Future Made in Australia built on reliable renewable energy, sustainable jobs, and affordable energy for the nation’s households.

Today’s announcement of a further $2 billion investment in the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) reinforces Australia’s progress towards a cleaner, more prosperous, and self-reliant economy.

“This forward-thinking investment underscores a vision for energy that lowers household power bills, strengthens domestic manufacturing, and drives down greenhouse gas emissions,” Smart Energy Council Chief Executive John Grimes said.

“The CEFC is at the heart of Australia’s clean energy transformation. As the nation’s green bank, it provides the financial backbone needed to drive innovation and growth in renewable energy technologies.”

“By partnering with retail banks, businesses, and communities, the CEFC facilitates projects that create lasting economic, environmental, and social benefits. From funding household energy upgrades, solar farms and wind projects to supporting large-scale battery storage and green hydrogen initiatives, the CEFC is instrumental in advancing Australian smart energy manufacturing and innovation.”

This additional $2 billion investment is projected to unlock $6 billion in private sector funding, delivering a significant boost to economic growth and job creation. In 2024 alone, CEFC-backed initiatives attracted $12 billion in private investment, created over 4,000 jobs—particularly in regional areas—and spurred innovation in local manufacturing industries.

“This renewed investment not only accelerates Australia’s shift to renewable energy but also highlights the CEFC as a cornerstone of our climate and energy strategy,” Mr Grimes said.

“By empowering communities and businesses to embrace smart energy solutions, the CEFC continues to lead Australia toward a greener, more sustainable, and more resilient future.”
