Fox ESS has launched AirGate in Australia, a compact 5-in-1 whole-home backup solution designed to simplify installation and reduce wiring and commissioning complexity.
AirGate has been developed by Fox ESS engineers drawing on the company’s experience in international markets, alongside feedback from Australian installers supporting increasingly complex home energy systems.
Following Australia’s recent milestone of more than 500,000 battery installations under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, interest in home battery and backup solutions continues to grow.
Fox ESS says installers can face several challenges when configuring whole-home backup systems, including:
- Complex wiring and multiple components, increasing labour time and cost
- Time-consuming configuration during commissioning
- Switchboard space constraints, particularly in compact environments
- Difficulty achieving whole-home backup without adding further complexity
AirGate is designed to address these issues by simplifying installation and reducing the number of separate components required.
Whole-home backup capacity
According to the Fox ESS AirGate technical datasheet, AirGate provides whole-home backup of up to 63A, supporting up to 14.5 kW for single-phase systems and 43.5 kW for three-phase systems.
Its compact DIN-rail design uses four poles for single-phase installations and six poles for three-phase installations, helping simplify switchboard planning.
Less wiring and easier installation
AirGate integrates five functions into a single compact unit: a miniature circuit breaker, changeover switch, metering, bypass switch and current transformer.
Fox ESS says this design can reduce cabling by up to 50%, which may also reduce installation time and costs.
The company says feedback from Australian installers indicates that savings can reach up to $3,000 in some installations, depending on factors such as the distance between the inverter and the switchboard.
Simplified commissioning and operation
AirGate includes integrated six-current-transformer self-adaptive metering with AI Phase Self-Adaptation. The feature is designed to identify the electrical connection status and reduce the need for manual configuration during installation and commissioning.
Fox ESS says an optional wireless gateway will also be available, with the aim of simplifying system commissioning and reducing the need for communication wiring.
