Smart Energy Council member Formbay has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Xpansiv, a provider of infrastructure for global energy and environmental markets.
Established in Australia, Formbay provides certificate and compliance technology used by retailers, installers and other market participants. Its platform supports the verification of renewable energy installations and the management of certificates, compliance requirements and payments across solar, home battery and energy efficiency programs.
Xpansiv provides registry, market infrastructure and data services for renewable energy and environmental markets. The proposed acquisition will combine these services with Formbay’s verification, compliance and workflow technology.
The companies say the arrangement will create opportunities to strengthen verification and audit processes, reduce administrative requirements and support the continued development of renewable energy certificate markets. It will also provide Formbay with additional resources to invest in its Australian operations, customer experience and future technology.
Formbay Founder and CEO Dan Sullivan said the company had been developed alongside Australia’s solar and renewable energy industry for more than a decade, with the trust of retailers and installers remaining an important consideration.
He said Xpansiv’s experience in certificate markets, regulation and market infrastructure would support Formbay’s continued growth in Australia, while creating opportunities to apply its technology and expertise in other renewable energy markets.
For Formbay customers, the company has advised that no changes are planned to day-to-day operations, platform access, pricing or existing customer relationships.
The acquisition remains subject to regulatory approval and is expected to be completed later in 2026.
