EPC Renewables Advances Yaqara Solar & Battery Project in Fiji

Suva, Fiji | September 2026

EPC Renewables and international delivery partner Grupo Cobra have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) for the development of the Yaqara Solar & Battery Project.

The project is planned in two stages:

Stage 1

  • 22 MW Solar PV
  • 40 MWh Battery Energy Storage System

Stage 2

  • 120 MW Solar PV
  • 200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System

Following the signing of the MOU, project development activities are now progressing. The Stage 1 design and land allocation are being finalised, the Environmental Impact Assessment is underway, a Community Engagement Plan is being developed and grid connection studies are advancing.

The project will combine utility-scale solar generation with battery storage to increase locally generated renewable energy, improve grid flexibility and reduce Fiji’s exposure to imported diesel, fuel price volatility and supply chain disruption.

The Yaqara development is also intended to support future residential, tourism, commercial, industrial and infrastructure growth in the region.

“The Yaqara Project is an important step in EPC Renewables’ growth in Fiji and in establishing a long-term renewable energy platform across the Pacific. We are now actively progressing the technical, environmental and grid connection activities required to bring Stage 1 forward,” said Daryn Stocks, Managing Director of EPC Renewables.

EPC Renewables has established a framework with Grupo Cobra to collaborate on engineering, procurement and construction activities for Stage 1 and future expansion of the project, combining international utility-scale delivery capability with EPC Renewables’ local development, engineering and regional experience.

Local employment and capability development will be a key part of the project. EPC Renewables has already employed two Fijians in full-time roles to support and expedite project development with further local employment expected as the project progresses through development and construction.

The company also intends to support apprenticeships, technical training and skills development, working with organisations including the Canberra Institute of Technology, Smart Energy Council and Sustainable Energy Industry Association of the Pacific Islands.

“Yaqara is intended to deliver more than generation capacity. It is about creating reliable energy infrastructure, local employment and skills, and a platform that can support wider economic development in Fiji,” Stocks said.
