The Smart Energy Council, in partnership with Austrade, is leading an Australian delegation of renewable energy companies to the 4th China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) in Beijing from 22–26 June 2026.
CEO John Grimes outlines the opportunity here:
The delegation will bring together export-ready Australian companies across the renewable energy sector, alongside partners including UNSW, to engage directly with China’s rapidly expanding energy ecosystem.
Hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) – China’s national trade and investment promotion agency – CISCE is one of the world’s most significant global supply chain platforms. The event attracts governments, industry leaders and investors from across the globe, with senior Chinese leadership, including the Vice Premier, expected to attend.
Australia has been named the Country of Honour for the 2026 Expo, placing Australian companies at the centre of the event with a strong national presence and profile.
Previous editions of CISCE have demonstrated the scale and impact of the platform, bringing together over 1,200 exhibitors from 75 countries, attracting more than 210,000 visitors, and facilitating over 42,000 business connections across global supply chains.
China is at the centre of the global renewable energy transition — leading in solar PV, battery storage and advanced manufacturing making it a critical market for Australian companies seeking to scale internationally.
The Smart Energy Council delegation is designed as a high-level, business-to-business program, focused on delivering real commercial outcomes.
Smart Energy Council CEO John Grimes said the initiative is about creating tangible opportunities for Australian companies.
“This isn’t about attending an event – it’s about doing business. We want Australian companies to go to China, meet the right partners, and come back with real outcomes – whether that’s a pilot project, a licensing deal or a commercial agreement.”
“China is central to the global renewable energy supply chain. If Australian companies want to grow internationally, they need to be engaging with this market and doing it with the right support.”
The program includes a two-day conference component in Beijing, where delegates will participate in industry sessions, networking events and high-level engagement opportunities.
This will be followed by curated industry site visits, providing delegates with direct exposure to some of the world’s most advanced renewable energy and manufacturing facilities, including:
- Electric vehicle production
- Battery manufacturing at scale
- Solar panel manufacturing operations
Participants will also benefit from structured business matching, with introductions to Chinese partners, investors and buyers facilitated through Smart Energy Council, Austrade and Chinese industry networks.
Austrade, as the Australian Government’s trade and investment agency, will provide on-the-ground support, market insights and access to networks to assist companies in navigating and engaging with the Chinese market.
The delegation is open to export-ready Australian companies across solar, battery storage and the broader renewable energy ecosystem seeking to build partnerships, explore export pathways and secure commercial opportunities.
