Hydrogen Queensland (H2Q) is undergoing a significant transformation, ushering in a new era of collaboration and innovation with Zero Carbon Hydrogen Australia (ZCHA) and the Smart Energy Council (SEC). This partnership marks a pivotal moment in the advancement of Queensland’s hydrogen industry and its integration into the national agenda.

Smart Energy Council Chief Executive John Grimes commended the formative work of Hydrogen Queensland, saying the last five years had laid the groundwork for the technology and sector.

“Their dedication and achievements have been instrumental in the growth of Queensland’s hydrogen industry and have greatly strengthened the national hydrogen agenda,” he said.

“We are excited to build upon this solid foundation and drive even greater value for our member companies, and for the people of Queensland and Australia who stand to benefit from it.”

Under the banner of the Smart Energy Council, the evolution of H2Q will focus on fostering a grassroots, connected ecosystem that spans the entire value chain in Queensland.

This vibrant community will be brought into the national conversation with initiatives including the continuation of the H2Q working group, the establishment of a national hydrogen advisory body, and key events such as H2Connect.

“We are honoured to welcome the members of Hydrogen Queensland as we integrate memberships and initiatives,” General Manager of Zero Carbon Hydrogen Australia Joanna Kay said.

“We are now the largest peak body for renewable hydrogen in Australia and the region.”

“This represents enormous opportunities for the growth of green iron, green steel and other green metals, as well the expansion of our future fuels like green biofuels,  green ammonia, sustainable aviation fuel, and other sectors like critical minerals.”

“We deeply respect and recognise the contributions of Hydrogen Queensland, particularly under the leadership of CEO Heidi Breen.”

Hydrogen Queensland CEO Heidi Breen expressed her enthusiasm for the transition, saying the merger would be critical to help drive the sector forward in Australia’s energy transition.

“I am thrilled with the transition and excited for the future of the hydrogen industry under this collaboration,” she said.

“I am immensely proud of all that we have achieved at H2Q over the last five years, and it is amazing to see the progress of the projects of our partners and members.”

“Incorporating H2Q into Zero Carbon Hydrogen Australia gives our partners and members a launch pad for engagement across a much larger ecosystem across hydrogen and the wider renewables sector.”

H2Q Members will be seamlessly transitioned to Smart Energy Council and Zero Carbon Hydrogen Australia from today, July 1, 2024.

Preceding this event, on August 26, we will host a special H2Connect, proudly brought to you by Zero Carbon Hydrogen Australia that will demonstrate the advances being made in the sector. This will include site visits, roundtables, and an evening networking opportunity that will be both insightful and enriching for all attendees.
