The Smart Energy Council welcomes the release of the Energy Security Board’s latest discussion paper on a capacity mechanism.
“All options, including a capacity mechanism focusing on zero emissions generation, should be on the table,” said John Grimes, Chief Executive of the Smart Energy Council, “but what is really needed is urgent action to deliver renewables and renewable energy storage to families, businesses and the energy grid.”
“Australia can be a renewable energy superpower, with cheap, reliable, zero emissions power for all Australians.”
“Australia is in a unique position being at the forefront of the renewables revolution but there’s not yet sufficient investor confidence to support the energy storage we need to complement wind and solar.”
“The Smart Energy Council urges the Australian Government to immediately instruct the Clean Energy Finance Corporation to prioritise financing for renewable energy storage at all scales.”
“The Australian Government should also examine options for tweaking or amending the Renewable Energy Target to encourage renewable energy storage, including the potential establishment of a Renewable Energy Storage Target.”
“Australian Governments should focus on making it easier, not harder, for families, businesses and the energy grid to access solar and renewables and to deliver cheaper, faster climate action.”
“Energy Ministers should examine all options that will get Australia to 82% renewables by 2030 and immediately amend the National Electricity Objective to include meeting Paris climate targets.”
“Smart energy saves money and creates jobs. Smart energy delivers quicker, cheaper climate action.”
