The Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews, has today announced a massive target for offshore wind that will revolutionise the energy industry in Australia.
The numbers are extraordinary:
- At least 2 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2032, with generation beginning in 2028.
- 4 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2035
- 9 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2040.
Two gigawatts of electricity’s enough to power 1.5 million homes.
And we are talking about thousands of new jobs.
The really good news is that studies confirm the offshore wind will blow at different times to onshore wind. Together with solar homes and solar farms throughout Victoria, we really are talking about 24 hour renewable power for Victoria.
This is a landmark announcement.
This is exactly the sort of leadership we desperately need at a national level.
The Smart Energy Council congratulates Daniel Andrews and Victorian Energy Minister, Lily D’Ambrosio on this nation-leading announcement.
